The ADCC effect, or Antibody-Dependent Cellular Cytotoxicity, is a critical mechanism through which the immune system targets and eliminates infected or cancerous cells. This process is facilitated by antibodies that bind to antigens on the surface of these harmful cells. Once bound, these antibodies attract immune cells such as natural killer (NK) cells, which recognize the antibodies and proceed to destroy the tagged cells. Enhancing the ADCC effect is a key strategy in developing novel therapeutics, particularly in cancer immunotherapy, where treatments are designed to boost this natural defense mechanism, leading to improved outcomes for patients.
