Patna.The central government has approved the roadmap for the construction of a six-lane Greenfield Expressway from Raxaul to Haldia Port. This project will give unprecedented speed to goods and passenger transport between Bihar and Nepal. Also, the eastern and north-eastern districts of the state will get extensive benefits. Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department Mihir Kumar Singh said that this six-lane Greenfield Expressway will pass through 12 districts of Bihar including Raxaul, Motihari, Shivhar, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Banka and Munger.

The length of this expressway in Bihar will be approximately 408 km

It will cross the border of Bihar and reach Haldia Port in West Bengal via Jharkhand. The total length of the expressway will be 585.35 km, of which the length of this expressway in Bihar will be about 408 km. Apart from 27 major bridges, 201 minor bridges, 51 interchanges, construction of a 4.5 km long bridge on the Ganga River near Birpur village in Begusarai district is also proposed under the project. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 39,000 crore.

Travel time from Raxaul to Haldia will be reduced to less than 10 hours

He said that the new expressway will reduce the travel time from Raxaul to Haldia to less than 10 hours. The expressway has been designed for a maximum speed of 120 kmph which will provide a smooth and safe travel experience to the general public. He said that it was not practical to build a bypass on the old routes, hence the state government had requested for a new greenfield route which has been approved by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

By the year 2027, it can be covered in a maximum of 3 hours and 30 minutes

This project is a part of the vision set by the Bihar government, under which the distance from any corner of Bihar to the capital Patna can be covered in a maximum of 3 hours 30 minutes by the year 2027. This is not only a road project but a path to comprehensive economic transformation, which will give Bihar a new identity on the national and international trade map.

A total of five major expressway projects are now in progress in the state
