Every eligible person should get ration card without any discrimination: Uttam Kumar
The focus of the government is to ensure that every eligible person gets a ration card without any discrimination, he said, adding that review meetings will now be held twice a month to maintain strict monitoring. Telangana's flagship free fine rice scheme distributes 6 kg of rice per person every month to about 3.10 crore people, which is about 84% of the population. This rice is distributed through fair price shops, at a cost of over Rs 13,000 crore annually, Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Provided ration for three months at once: Uttam Kumar
In June, July and August, the state provided three months of ration at a time to ensure uninterrupted supply, distributing 18 kg per person, 105 kg to Antyodaya families and 30 kg to Annapurna families. He also sharply criticised the previous BRS government for neglecting food security and ration card enrolment. There were 89.73 lakh white ration cards when Telangana was formed in 2014, but the BRS added only 49,000 new cards, most of them during bypolls, ignoring lakhs of families, said Uttam Kumar Reddy.
