The police have intensified the investigation into the rape case of a South Calcutta Law College student that created a sensation across the country. Criminal history of the accused: Monojit Mishra,
the main accused in this case, was a former student of the same college and is currently working as a contract employee. The victim alleged that he used to terrorize female students on the campus. He would take photos of girls, morph them and send them on WhatsApp groups. He would sexually harass them. Students would be afraid to come to classes because of his fear, she told a media outlet.
Previous cases
According to police records, Monojit Mishra already has 11 cases of indecent behavior and harassment against women. He was expelled from the same college in 2013 after being found guilty of an attempt to murder. However, there is criticism over giving him a job in the college.
Pressure on the college management
In the wake of this incident, the college management dismissed Monojit from his job after receiving severe criticism for continuing the accused in his job despite knowing his past history. As per the court's orders, Mishra and two students have been remanded in police custody till July 8 and the security guard till Friday. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
