Hydra officials have taken strict action against illegal constructions, huts and commercial buildings that have been going on for decades on the Sunnam Cheruvu in Madapur. The operation, which began on Monday morning, June 30, has become a major sensation locally.

Authorities attack on encroachments
AlmostHydra has reported large-scale encroachment in the 32-acre Sunnam Cheruvu.The authorities identified several huts and other structures illegally constructed within the full water level (FTL) of the pond, which were removed with the help of JCBs. On this occasion,borehole motors illegally installed near the pondwere also removed.
Illegal water trade strict action
It has come to the attention of the authorities that a large-scale illegal water trade has been going on in this area for several years. Some people are making money by drilling boreholes illegally, extracting groundwater from the pond and selling it through water tankers. The authorities have stepped in to put a stop to this racket. Several water tankers that were transporting water illegally have been seized. The authorities have issued clear orders not to use the groundwater from the pond under any circumstances.
Tourism Development Plan
The Telangana government has decided to develop the Sunnam Lake as a tourist attraction and restore it to its former glory. As part of this, Hydra has undertaken the development work of the lake with a fund of Rs. 10 crore. Officials said that as part of this development plan, the encroachment removal program is currently being carried out in earnest.
