Dhaka: Bangladesh's interim leader, Mohammad Yunus, revealed that the country officially approached India regarding the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, he stated that no official response has been received from India so far. Yunus disclosed this during an interview with international media. It is well known that Sheikh Hasina fled the country last August amidst widespread violence during anti-reservation protests. Since then, she has been hiding in India. Along with Hasina, several former ministers, advisors, and officials during her tenure are facing charges related to crimes against humanity. The International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants for them. Yunus confirmed that investigations are ongoing regarding Hasina and the individuals associated with her.
No Official Response from India Regarding Extradition
He further mentioned that no official response has been received from India regarding their request for Hasina's extradition. Bangladesh had sent a letter requesting the extradition of Sheikh Hasina, which India has already acknowledged. The Bangladesh High Commission had sent a letter concerning Hasina’s extradition. However, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson clarified that no comments could be made on the matter at present. Recently, during a public event organized by Awami League party workers, Hasina appeared via Zoom call and spoke to her party workers. She vowed to return to Bangladesh and take revenge for the deaths of her party workers. She also promised to ensure justice for everyone, just as she had in the past. Despite months of a transitional government, Yunus criticized that the unrest continues unabated. He labeled Hasina as a "terrorist" and emphasized that bringing her back to the country remains the interim government's top priority.
