They criticized that they are being installed to cut the throats of consumers and to protect Adani and Shirdi Sai companies. They demanded that the decision to install smart meters be withdrawn and that the installed ones be removed immediately. The CPM state office issued a statement to this effect. They said that each smart meter will cost Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 18,000 and it will be included in the monthly electricity bill . They said that the burden on consumers in the state will be Rs. 50,000 crore per year. They said that they are explaining this issue to the people through pamphlets and that people are accepting and signing petitions against it. They demanded that if they want the welfare of the people without submitting to the orders of the Center, they should immediately withdraw the smart meters. If not stopped, they will discuss the future program with the Left parties and various public organizations to hold a state-wide movement.
