If you are already using the Netgear Orbi system then you have taken a good step toward having stronger and more reliable internet with in your home. If you want the system to work properly then it is important to connect your Orbi Satellite in the right way with main router.
Many people assume it is a simple plug-and-play setup, but when the satellite shows an amber or red light or refuses to connect, things can quickly get frustrating. This guide will help you sync your Orbi extender the right way without any confusing terms. We will go through the steps clearly and simply.
What You Need Before Syncing
Before diving in, make sure you have got a few basic essentials:
-
Your Orbi Router (RBR) plugged into the modem
-
The Orbi Satellite (RBS) unit nearby for pairing
-
A power source and working Ethernet cables (just in case)
-
Your phone or computer ready, preferably connected to Orbis WiFi
Quick Note: Do not place the satellite too far from the router during syncing. Keep it within 68 feet for best results.
Step 1: Power up the Router First
Start by plugging in and powering up the Orbi router. Wait until the LED on top turns solid white and then blue which means that the router is ready. This is an essential part of the process and your router needs to be fully up and running before you even touch the satellite.
Step 2: Place and Power on the Satellite
Once the router is stable, bring the Orbi Satellite close to it and plug it into a power outlet.
You will see the satellite light up. It usually starts blinking white, which means it is booting up.
After about two minutes, the LED will change color:
-
Blue = Good connection
-
Amber = Fair connection (might want to move it closer)
-
Red = Failed sync (you will need to try again)
If it turns blue then it is perfect. You are done with this step. If it is red or amber then dont panic.
Step 3: Press the Sync Button
At this step many people often mess up. On the back of your Orbi router, there is a small Sync button. Press and hold it for about 2 seconds.
Within 2 minutes, press the Sync button on the back of your satellite too.
They will connect with each other wirelessly. Give it a few minutes the top LED on the satellite will turn solid blue once syncing is successful.
Tip: Do not unplug or move anything until the light turns solid blue.
Step 4: Confirm with orbilogin Satellite Access
Once the sync is successful, you can log into the router's dashboard to confirm things are connected in the right way. Confirm to open a browser and go to: orbilogin.com or orbilogin.net and enter your login credentials unless you have changed them.
Navigate to Attached devices and you should see the Orbi Satellite listed.
If it is not showing, or you are unable to access orbilogin satellite settings, it probably did not sync correctly. Repeat the sync process again.
Step 5: Move the Satellite (Optional)
Once the satellite is synced and visible in the dashboard then you can unplug it and move it to a better spot in your home.
Just make sure:
-
It is within wireless range of the main router
-
There are fewer obstructions (walls, floors)
-
After moving, plug it back in and wait for the blue light again
You do not need to press the sync button again because Orbi remembers the connection.
