Sand: Permission for sand mining in Krishna River – AP Government

The Andhra Pradesh government has given permission to mine sandfrom the Krishna River for the construction work of Amaravati. The government has issued orders granting administrative approval to spend Rs. 286 crores for mining sand through desiltation (the process of removing silt) upstream of the Prakasam Barrage. This can be seen as a way to meet the growing construction needs in Amaravati.

Tenders Responsibility of the Water Resources Department

The tender process for sand mining has been handed over to the Water Resources Department. The responsibility of monitoring the entire work has also been handed over to the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The government is taking steps to ensure that the work is carried out transparently through tenders. With these steps, there is a possibility of speeding up the development work of the state capital.

Excavation should be done as per the rules clear instructions to CRDA

The government has taken precautions to ensure that no irregularities occur in sand mining. It has directed the CRDA to ensure that mining is carried out only in compliance with all permits and environmental regulations. Officials have made it clear that precautions should be taken to minimize environmental impacts in the future. Along with these permits, the state government is also taking regulatory measures in parallel to move the capital construction program forward.
